Belphegor - Pure Demonic Brutality
Interview By: David Priest © 2008 On Track Magazine.com
As Extreme Metal continues to grow in popularity I have often wondered as to how
much these bands actually believe in what they are preaching, especially when it comes to the massive amount of Satanic
themed attitudes and hate fueled elements that dominate their music. Can a person really be this pissed off? How does this
play out in the scheme of their own existence and what do they base their beliefs on? Evil as I have always understood it, is by its very definition bad but more and more bands and the fans who follow them are embracing this sort of overt negativity.
Perhaps it is a reflection of the world around us and if so do we want it to continue? Are we misunderstanding the principle
involved or are we truly headed for hell in a hand basket? I recently moved to include a new chapter in my pursuit to unravel
the truth of this entrancing phenomenon by speaking with someone who I hoped might be more of an expert on the subject and
share some intelligent insight. I am speaking of course about extreme guitar master Helmuth of Austria's Blackened Death
Metal kings Belphegor. Listen in and decide for yourselves whether or not these guys truly buy into the words they
are spewing forth or if they are in it merely for the sake of being another evilized Metal band. Helmuth I believe presents a pretty convincing case as we discuss the bands animosities and indulgences conveyed through their latest nightmare of hellish contempt, Bondage Goat Zombie!
